The year is 2001…
When I was at school I discovered a new technology – Flash games. These were early online games that you played in a web browser. Nothing like the modern versions, but at the time I thought they felt like magic! So did my classmates, but the school’s IT department were more interested in blocking them due to the ‘outrageous security concerns’. Boring!
Flash was indeed a security nightmare for the web, and thankfully it’s long gone, but at the time I realised that I could essentially save (download) these Flash games, create a new website (that wasn’t blocked on the network) and upload it there. I’d then quietly inform my classmates of the new URL and be a lunchtime hero (for about five minutes until the IT department blocked it)
The mix of tech and creativity hooked me, and before long, others were asking me to build websites for them. Fast forward a few years, and now I specialize in helping others learn how to create, manage and develop their own websites—from e-commerce to charities, authors and corporations.
OK that’s story time over for now, back to work!
